Assistant Underwriter
Job Responsibilities:
- Underwriting Support:
-Assist in evaluating new business and renewal submissions, including gathering and analyzing relevant data.
-Support the preparation of underwriting recommendations and proposals for decision-making.
-Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, company policies, and treaty.
- Risk Assessment:
-Review survey reports and other risk documentation to assess exposures and recommend risk improvements.
-Assist in calculating adequate premiums by analyzing property characteristics, loss history, and risk mitigation measures.
- Policy Administration:
-Prepare policy documents, endorsements, and quotations as directed.
-Monitor and ensure accurate and timely issuance of insurance policies and endorsements.
- Data and Portfolio Management:
-Maintain and update underwriting records, databases, and files.
-Analyze portfolio performance and provide insights on trends and areas of improvement.
- Client and Broker Communication:
-Communicate with brokers and clients to clarify risk details, gather required documentation, and answer general inquiries.
-Support the resolution of underwriting issues or discrepancies in collaboration with the team.
- Technical Development:
-Participate in training sessions and workshops to build underwriting and risk assessment skills.
-Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in property insurance.
- Collaboration:
-Work closely with the senior underwriters to handle complex cases.
-Coordinate with other departments, such as claims, risk engineering, and reinsurance, as needed.
- Risk Control and Mitigation:
-Assist in reviewing and following up on risk improvement recommendations for insured properties.
-Collaborate with risk engineers to ensure compliance with underwriting standards and guidelines.
- Reinsurance and Treaty Management:
-Assist in ensuring adherence to treaty capacity and compliance with reinsurance guidelines.
-Liaise with reinsurers for facultative support, as needed.
- Reporting and Analysis:
-Prepare and submit periodic reports on underwriting activities and performance metrics.
Job Qualifications:
- Internship or 1–2 years in insurance underwriting or a related field is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
